Acupressure for pregnancy nausea

My Story:

During my first pregnancy, I experienced severe nausea. I could never leave the house for the first trimester because I kept vomiting and could not keep anything down. I was vomiting about every three hours. Since caused me great problems at work so I had to take short-term disability leave because of my extended absence.

To treat this condition, I went to the local hospital and was put on I.V. fluids. My doctor also recommended some dietary changes. This included drinking electrolyte drinks. Nothing worked, and I was against trying any drug therapy during my pregnancy. I wanted to try everything except pharmaceuticals.

A friend of mine, suggested that I try acupressure and gave the name of a local practitioner. So I went for several sessions and seemed to work. I cannot say for absolute certain whether the nausea ended because it was naturally time for it to diminish, but it seemed to coincide with the acupressure treatments. At the least it was a lot better than trips to the hospital to be hooked up to an I.V. after vomiting.

I think that people should be told more about non-invasive therapies like acupressure, and listen with an open mind. I recommended it to my cousin, who found it to help with her pregnancy with twins, where nausea was a problem for all three trimesters.

Interesting! Where can I find an acupressure-trained professional? What are their credentials/educational background?

The primary difference between acupressure and acupuncture is that the latter uses thin needles in addressing health concerns, while the former doesn't break your skin. Both methods are both based on touching meridians that carry energy, or chi, throughout the body.

What is acupressure? How is it different than acupuncture?
